Washington DC

Back

I went to Washington DC for the eGov Knowledge Management conference. When Sharon and the kids found out they were so excited that we were going. I told them I would be pretty busy and wouldn't have much time to spend with them and they seemed kind of confused - then they said Oh, you thought we were going to be with you!?

I got to go to a couple things with them - the rest of the pictures will show up in our family photo albums ...

The first thing we stopped at, even before we hit the hotel was the Iwo Jima memorial.
When we got to the hotel (the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania) we found out that right outside or room was a War Protest. As soon as we saw it, Sharon said 'don't they know it's over?'.

After we were checked in and the bellman brought up our bags, he apologized for the noise of the protesters and said 'I guess nobody told them the war is almost over'.
We decided to head out and look for something called the awakening. We heard it was near the FDR memorial, so we headed over there first. Those war protesters need to understand this quote from FDR.
The family at the memorial.

By the time we got back to the room, the kids were pretty tired. Elizabeth didn't last long at all!
Victoria decided she wanted to sleep on the window ledge (inside of course).
The next day we started out at the Zoo.
First we saw the cheetah!
It was an absolutely beautiful day!
We saw a bison.
The Giant Pandas were amazing ... we probably spent 45 minutes watching them!
The kids posing ...
The kids and I had to drag Sharon away from this one ... he was so playful!
Elizabeth loved the Reptile House. Here is a Komodo Dragon ...
We think this is a Gar ... but we could be wrong.
The King of the Jungle getting some beauty rest!
We watched the beavers for about 15 minutes. They sure were busy little ... well, you get the idea.
We finally did find 'The awakening' ... it was quite a search.

You probably can't tell from the pictures, but it is this huge man pulling himself out of the dirt ... kinda strange.
The kids were climbing on his arm ...
... and his knee made a cool slide.

We closed out the day with Pizzaria Uno and swimming.
Mike, Mike, and Randy after Randy's presentation.
Randy spreading the good word.
For dinner we took the kids to the food court at the Ronald Reagan Conference Center.
Mr. Gilligan - the CIO of the Air Force spoke on Knowledge Mangement and referenced our program during the Q&A period.
Doug Comstock and I hooked up with Linda Hopple and Dave & Vicki Baty for dinner at the Michael Jordan restaurant.
As we were leaving DC on Thursday we stopped at Roosevelt Island.
Big Statue!
