Post 9/11 Vacation

Back

Because of the free tickets we got on last year's vacation we decided to to to California!

Our trip was scheduled to leave on September 12 ... however some terrorists prevented that! We ended up flying out on September 13. The travel actually went pretty well!

It may look like we went to Africa - but this is really the San Diego Wildlife Park.
Giraffe
Look at the little baby! No Sharon we cannot take him home.
They work really hard to reproduce the living environment they would have in the wild. Of course without the periodic predator eating them ...
There was also a petting-area.
Then we went to the bird aviary. The girls trying to get the birds to jump on ...
Lewis just feeding from the fence.
Next we went to Disneyland
The kids with Walt and Mickey.
The kids with Mary Poppins.
Buzz Lightyear to the rescue!
The wicked queen! She was giving Victoria a hard time before she would pose for the picture.

I guess that's why they call her wicked.
Of course a ride on the carousel
The next day we went to the San Diego Zoo!
Aren't these beautiful!
Well, not as beautiful as these ...
Looking comfy!
Ming - the Giant Panda was out for dinner when we stopped by.
Hungry?
Next we went to Sea World ... San Diego. It was our first time at a Sea World.
They had some really neat shows ...
Look how wet the trainer is ...
This is Tiny waving goodbye! You can see why they named him that!
Of course you can't go to Sea World without seeing the big guy!
Because it was days after the 9/11 tragedy this was right next to the beach.
Despite the fact that it was only about 68 degrees - the kids were dying to play in the ocean!
As usual vacations end up being really long days, making for very tired children!
We headed to downtown San Diego and 'Old Town'. They serve some great Mexican food.

It looks like the girls are watching other people eat ...
... but they are really watching these musicians.
Since we were that close to Mexico, we decided to drop down south of the border - just to say we did it.

However, that turned out to be a long excursion. Getting into Mexico was pretty easy, getting back out was a 90 minute ordeal - probably because of 9/11.

Here are street 'vendors' walking along the cars pedalling their wares.
Next we went to the new 'California Adventure' theme park (by Disney) right next to Disneyland.

Because of 9/11 they went through all our bags.
The GRR (Grizzly River Run) whitewater raft adventure was pretty cool (and wet)

We were done with the whole park by about 2pm - it was kinda small!
We found this climb, swing, jump area - we finished up the day here.

The kids must have ridden this thing about 10 times each!

We had a great trip - despite the scare from 9/11.
