Father / Son weekend

Back

As part of homeschooling, Sharon found this horse farm in central Ohio ...

We found out that they have a Father/Son weekend ... and it just happened to occur near Lewis' birthday! So, he and I loaded up the truck and headed out ... well, really his mom did all the packing.

Lewis nad I near the truck after we have all the gear loaded.
Right after breakfast on Saturday we met our horses and monted up for a ride. My horse was a HUGE palamino named Solomon - a wise horse for a wise guy.
Here is another shot of Lewis atop Maple.
The weather was kinda cold - but it was a beautiful sky ... and the trees were painted some amazing colors.
Did I mention the amazing tree colors?
After the trail ride on Saturday we spent a little time in the arena - learning a little more about how to manage the horse.
Maple was a GREAT follow horse - meaning that she loved to be on the trail following the horse in front of her. She really didn't like to listen to the rider.
After lunch we took another ride - then we went on the 'Challenge Course'. This involved some great team-building activities.

You should ask Lewis or I for more details.
Next was archery. Here Keena helps Lewis get the right stance. Lewis is using a #15 bow. Toward the end he was doing GREAT!
Then we had dinner and free-time before the evening devotion. Lewis and I were pretty tuckered out so once we got ready for bed - we played a 'quick' game of war and called it a day.
On Sunday we had a kinda lazy morning with breakfast at 8:45 and Cowboy Church at 9:45 - then we got our horses saddled and cleaned up before lunch. Lewis is picking the shoes clean for Maple.
After lunch we went for one more ride before heading home. This ride was led by the Matt - the head Wrangler.

He made a few stops for some object lessons in the woods ... very neat.

We had a great time! We may just make this a tradition!
