Colorado Springs

Back

Greg Walker and I went to Colorado Springs, to Peterson Air Force Base.

We goofed off a little ... we were able to visit
* Pikes Peak

* Garden of the Gods

* Focus on the Family campus.
The weather was great!

When we arrived we decided to head up to Pikes Peak. After inquiring about the driving route we decided to ride a train up to the top. Here is Greg next to an early steam version of what we rode.
Here are the real cars we rode in to the top.
As we are going up ... water is coming down.
Did I mention how high it is? It was quite a bit colder at that altitude. It also does strange things to your head (and stomach). Greg seemed fine ... I on the other hand was dizzy and queasy!
Here you can see the cities below. Our tour guide told us that if the train brakes failed we didn't need to worry because there are two giant springs at the end of the line to break our fall. Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs!
We were quite high!!
Here you can see a train following us down the mountain.
Not a lot of green up here. Pikes Peak casts a 5 mile shadow on the valley below!
When the kids see this McDonalds playland they are all going to want to go to Colorado Springs!!
Garden of the Gods is a Rock garden. You can see by the shots that they know how to grow a mountain in Colorado!
There are paths you can walk around these giant upshots of rock.
All these remnents from the World Wide flood of Noah's time.
Greg talked me into leaving the path (despite all the signs warning us to stay on the path) and climb between these two rocks. I tried to talk him out of it but he wouldn't listen!

You can see his arm at the bottom of the picture ...
There were rock climbers working at various places along our walk!
The weather there changes quite a bit. We could look to the left and see sunshine, to the right was rain. Right in the middle was a rainbow!
Focus on the Family main building. There are about 5 buildings on the campus including a Visitors Center.
Whit's End is in the Visitor Center.
Tasty Treats!.
A-Bend-A-Go, a three-story corkscrew slide!

Good trip!!
